[Announcement to those who are taking the JLPT outside of Japan]
Starting from the July 2025 JLPT, the use of mobile phones (and all other devices with camera and communicating functions) is not permitted until the end of the test, including during breaks.
Examinees must turn OFF their devices until the test ends.
Please note that if the devices are turned ON during breaks, it will be considered as an act of misconduct and the test scores will be invalidated.
[Misconduct]
Your action or attempted action will be considered misconduct and your test results invalidated for all test sections for any of the misconduct listed below:
(1) When mobile phones and other devices (including smartwatches and all camera and communicating devices) were NOT OFF until the end of the test time:
Example 1: A mobile phone or watch alarm (including smartwatches) sounds or vibrates during the test;
Example 2: When the power is turned ON during a break time;
(2) Cheating: An examinee who provides others with answers, or who obtains answers from other examinees, or who uses a dictionary, textbook, reference book, crib sheet, earphone, mobile phone or any other devices with camera and communicating functions, or who writes answers in advance on his or her desk or writing equipment;
(3) An examinee who is found to be taking the test for someone else, or to have asked someone to take the test on his or her behalf, or an examinee whose identity could not be verified due to the use of a fraudulent ID or other such reason;
(4) An examinee who fails to follow the proctor's instructions;
(5) An examinee who takes the question booklets and/or answer sheets outside the test room with him/her, takes photos of the question booklets and/or answer sheets, or takes the contents of the question booklets and/or answer sheets outside the test room by copying them or recording them;
(6) An examinee who disturbs other examinees in any way;
(7) An examinee who shares the test contents and answers, photos of the question booklets and/or answer sheets, or audio content of the listening test via the Internet or any other means of communication with any third party, and vice versa (including after the test);
(8) An examinee who cooperates with someone committing misconduct (2), (3), (5), (6) or (7).
If you commit any kind of misconduct during the test, the proctor will instruct you to stop the test and dismiss you from the test center. You will not be able to take the rest of the test. If you commit any of these types of misconduct, or if the Japan Foundation determines for any reason that there are questions about the propriety of your score, the Japan Foundation has the right to take one or more of the following actions: re-administer the test, invalidate your test results (including those from past tests), refuse to notify you of your test result, and ban you from taking future JLPT tests.
The Japan Foundation will not be responsible for any damages suffered by the examinee nor any other type of claim made as a result of re-administering the test, not being notified of your score, having your score invalidated, or being banned from ever taking the test again.
